Here is a list of very small contributions we made towards mother earth.

1. I car pooled my colleague to work, saving his quarter gallon of gas and a lesser carbon dioxide emission.
2. After returning from work, I re planted my potted Bougainvillea on the lawn next to my home, yes they allow residents to grow small plants on landscaped gardens. My Bougainvillea refused to flower for more than one year. May be now it will change its mind and give the area, near our home, a fresh new look. I will watch out for lawn mowers to arrive next week. In case they want to take it out, I will prevent them, got a few neighbors’ support as well.
3. I converted to e-delivery of statements and forms from the only remaining paper mailer, my brokerage account. I wonder why I didn’t convert this one earlier. Was I waiting for earth day?
4. I switched off AC for 2 hours and sat on the patio in the evening. With South Florida weather, you can not just sit inside with AC off, at this time of the year. It was excellent to just sit on the patio and watch the moon reflecting on the lake, and, occasional sounds of movement inside the water was terrific too. While seating, I was reading the nice comments you started posting on this blog. It was so much fulfilling. We didn’t eat out too, because  it was a ‘no unnecessary drive’ day. Generally Friday evening is our eating out day.
5. While going to bed I increased the thermostat to 76F, it stays on 75F other days, I didn’t feel any discomfort.
6. I planned on to give our old clothes to Goodwill, will do it as soon as we make them wear ready.
7. We didn’t watch TV entire day, in fact we plugged off the entertainment unit, which saved the standby power consumption by TV, DVD player and home theater and sound mixer.
8. Switch off home phone after enabling call forwarding to cell phone, with three handsets always on, home phone standby power consumption was no smaller than what entertainment system consumes.
9. We walked for 30 minutes after dinner, read a few green tips from other blogs. You can read this blog, I liked it and subscribed as well.
10. I drafted this blog post to help inspire people to do something useful on earth day, may be next year. Or better, you can celebrate a belated earth day! I think, I saved a few cents as well celebrating earth day.
