Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

This verse speaks to me about the importance of relying on God for all things, and not hoping to find happiness through things, money or people. When we fix our hopes on the “uncertainty of riches”, we’ll frequently be let down. Stock markets crash, real estate doesn’t always appreciate.

When we fix our hope on God, and are generous with what we’ve been given, we build up a treasure in heaven that no money can purchase. Doing good works in itself won’t purchase us a place in heaven, but it is an expression of our faith. As such we need to do our best to help those around us in as numerous ways as we can.
