Toshiba has expanded a recall first issued in March 2016 after continuing reports of the battery packs in its laptops overheating and melting.

83,000 Toshiba laptops included in recall expansion
At issue in the expanded recall are Panasonic lithium-ion battery packs that were factory installed in 41 models of Toshiba Satellite laptops or installed by Toshiba technicians during repairs.
The laptops were sold for between $500 and $1,000 at Office Depot, Staples and other electronics stores nationwide, as well as online at at Toshiba’s official site and other websites, from June 2011 through November 2016.
Toshiba has posted a full list of the battery packs and laptops that are involved in the recall at this point.
If you prefer to do a manual check, look for a part numbers that begins with G71C (G71C*******) printed on the battery pack. That will indicate your laptop is involved in this recall.
Toshiba has received five reports in total of the battery overheating and melting. Four reports prompted the original March 2016 recall, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Since then, one additional report of overheating and melting has come in, which prompted the expanded recall.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
