In addition to the Walmart Coupon Policy and the Target Coupon Policy I wanted to share a few Target & Walmart Cost Match Policy Tips and Tricks. Cost matching is one of my all time favorite ways to save money! I live in an area where there are only a few local grocery stores and Walmart, we don’t have typical grocery stores in our area so the few stores we do have are frequently overpriced with just a few items worth going in for each week. Cost matching allows me to purchase the loss leaders from all the local stores in one place and it saves me both time and money!

I am all about simplifying my life right now so I thought I would share a few tips and tricks with you on how I make Cost Matching easier!

1. Find a source for the local weekly ads in your area. My local area has drugstore and office supply store ads in the Sunday Paper and Grocery ads in the Wednesday Paper. If you do not get the paper each day you can find almost all store ads online. Go to the retailers website and look for a link to the weekly ad on the homepage. All of the stores in my area have their ads available online the morning the sale goes live.

2. Bookmark the ad locations on your smart phone. I am always pulling up the ads (Especially the Aldi’s Ad for Produce) on my phone while I am in the stores. This way even if I forget to bring the printed ads with me, or I make a last minute Un-planned trip into the stores I can still take advantage of cost matching!

3. Know your stores Ad Match Policy. The Walmart Cost Match Policy is very specific about what you can and cannot cost match. In general you must have the items size and cost listed on the ad in order for it to be valid for cost matching, so things like 50% off don’t qualify because there isn’t a specific cost listed. It is also key to know what is excluded there are several different types of sales including gift card deals and rewards offers that are typically excluded.

4. Print Your stores Ad match Policy. I can’t tell you how numerous times I have been trying to cost match and run into Cashiers who didn’t know their stores policy, it’s key to carry a copy of both the Walmart Coupon Policy the Target Coupon Policy and the Cost Match Policies with you in your coupon binder or box to save yourself a lot of time spent arguing over what is allowed. Cost Matching only works on the EXACT same item, so you need to double check the Item Name, Brand, Product Size and quantity when you are in stores to make sure you are purchasing the right item. A lot of stores these days have special size packaging which means you may not always be able to cost match items. For example Dollar General and Family Dollar might sell a 45 oz. bottle of Laundry Detergent while Walmart sells one that is 50 oz. This is something to pay attention to before you get to the front counter because it will save you a lot of headache later on.

6. Use Limits to your Advantage. One of the little known secrets of cost matching is that it’s a way to increase quantity limits set by your favorite store. Or if a store is sold out of an item, Cost matching may still allow you to take advantage of a deal by shopping at a competitor. For example if Walgreens has an item marked down and the limit is 2, I can grab 2 at Walgreens and Cost Match 2 at Walmart, that allows me to get 4 of an item that is on sale for a really low cost, this is one way to build your stockpile. It is key to note that you must follow limits at Walmart that are noted in the ad, so if your store has a limit of 2 most stores will only cost match up to that limit.

7. Keep your items separate in your cart. I like to keep my cost match items separate in my cart, either by placing them in the top where a child sits or by using a hand held basket in my cart to keep things organized. This lets you me remember all of the items I was going to cost match when I get to checkout. It’s simple to forget something last minute when you’re dealing with coupons and paying so this tip lets you me make sure that I don’t forget to cost match anything at checkout.
