If you’re thinking about selling your house soon, you may want to go ahead and add a few coats of paint to the kitchen.

Certain colors can increase your home’s value

According to real estate website Zillow, homes with yellow kitchens go for about $1,400 more than those with white kitchens. In general, ‘warm, earthy’ tones, like sage green and dove gray, can also increase the sale price of the home.

After analyzing home sales data, here’s what Zillow found: ‘Of all the colors analyzed, homes with yellow kitchens, often in hues of creamy or wheat yellow, yielded the highest sale premium ($1,360 above expected values). Wall colors painted in other earthy tones like sage green or dove gray were also present in top-performing listings.’

On the flip side, dark colors can decrease a home’s value — so you may want to stay away from darker grays and browns.
